My bike is a Linus Dutchie 1 - Single Speed. I got rid of the tires and seat and grips that came on it and replaced them with Fyxation pink & black items. The grips and seat that came on the Linus Dutchie were kind of shoddy and one of the pedals fell apart not long after I started riding it.
This bicycle also had easily visible rust almost immediately. Another friend of mine also experienced rust on hers. My bicycle has never spent a night outdoors since I have a bicycle room in my apartment building and it comes inside to my office during the day. I don't exactly encourage people to buy this bicycle, but I love the way mine looks as it is now.
My panniers are the Basil Rosa Double Pannier and should retail for about $80.
Knowledge is power - I lived in NYC for one year before I considered riding here, but I read all of my rights and responsibilities as a cyclist, and I learned cars responsibility of respect toward you, and all of that information gave me the confidence to give it a try.
The quote "One man's courage is another man's comfort zone" is a way to explain how I have the guts to ride in traffic in New York City. I do not solely stick to bicycle lanes and I follow all traffic laws.

Fast forward to Spring 2010- New job and tidy new commute. I was eager to get a new bicycle!
I had a single speed Schwinn Cream, which was killed. I am now a new owner of a Linus Dutchie 1 - A single speed with coaster brakes in the color Pearl. It's a very cool white.

I love the simplicity of a single speed and I like the coaster brakes. I'm too busy to shift gears and I don't have to tangle with too many hills in the city.
My husband also regularly commutes a similar distance in the city. He has a Scattante fixie/single speed. That's all I know about his bike.

And if I'm rolling - I'm wearing a helmet! Always, always, always! No debate.
We wear Bern Watts helmets - I have the gloss white version and a purple/black/white brim version, and Matt has a gray/yellow one. We both wear size Medium, but there are easy size-charts online.
